Terra Verde, also known as “Green Earth,” opens its doors to schools, inviting students and teachers to experience firsthand a space where solidarity, acceptance of diversity, and cooperation\u2014outside the competitive terms of the labor market\u2014can serve as a springboard for creating a more inclusive society. <\/span><\/p>

At Terra Verde, individuals with and without disabilities take their first steps into the world of work and collaboration under different terms, proving in practice that equality and social inclusion are not just concepts, but an active effort toward social change. <\/span><\/p>

Student visits to our premises,<\/span> supported by the Primary and Secondary Education Directorates of Chania,<\/b> offer an opportunity for experiential learning that strengthens social awareness and cultivates a spirit of solidarity.<\/span> <\/p>

  1. How much do you know about bees? <\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

    Beekeeper Giannis Apostolakis introduces us to the life of the bee and the colony through his personal experience, his equipment, books, and images. Children can try on the equipment, ask questions, and even make their own beeswax candle at the end. <\/span><\/p>

    1. From the tree to my plate! <\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

      Do we actually know what a cacao tree looks like, or how sugar finds its way into our sweets? How difficult is it to harvest cashews or how is tahini made? Which of the foods we eat has traveled the furthest to reach our plate, and what grows right next to us? Through games, questions, and short films, we learn together about the origin and journey of our food, while reflecting on the methods used to bring it to our table. <\/span><\/p>

          Together with our friend and cooperative member, Eleni Doudounaki, we prepare small, healthy treats using ingredients found in the shop, while simultaneously discussing and learning about their origins. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

          The goals of the educational programs are for students and teachers to come into experiential contact with: <\/span><\/p>

          • The concept of cooperativism<\/span><\/li>
          • Fair Trade<\/span><\/li>
          • Workplace and social inclusion <\/span><\/li>
          • The food cycle and its journey<\/span><\/li>
          • The process of food production and processing<\/span><\/li>
          • The theory and practice of Zero Waste: minimizing the ecological footprint by reducing plastic use and encouraging the reuse of packaging in daily life. <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

            Methodology <\/b><\/p>

            Depending on the selected program and the age of the participants, different pedagogical methodologies will be applied. Some of the tools we use include storytelling, theatrical play, problem-solving and interviewing. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

            Participation in the programs is free of charge. Ages: The programs are designed for all ages within Primary and Secondary education, with appropriate adjustments made based on the grade level. <\/span><\/p>

            Each program can accommodate 15\u201320 students at a time. <\/span><\/p>
